Grants and payments for farmers and primary producers after floods
There is a range of support measures available for farmers and primary producers affected by storms and floods in NSW.
Disaster relief loans
Disaster relief loans are sometimes made available to primary producers affected by severe storms and floods.
You may be eligible if you are located in a disaster-declared area.
Find out whether there are disaster relief loans currently available on the NSW Rural Assistance Authority (RAA) website.
Natural disaster transport subsidy
If you’ve been affected by a declared natural disaster, you may be eligible for this subsidy. The funds can be put toward the cost of transporting:
- fodder or water to an affected property
- stock to sale or slaughter
- stock from agistment.
Check the list of disaster-declared LGAs to find out if you're eligible. You can use this list to determine which Australian Government reference number (AGRN) applies to your flood event. You can then use this number to find other support that may be available to you.
Up to $15,000 can be claimed for each natural disaster event. If you were affected by the floods beginning in June 2022 (AGRN 1025), you can claim up to $25,000.
Apply for the Natural Disaster Transport Subsidy on the NSW Rural Assistance Authority (RAA) website.
Natural disaster donated fodder transport subsidy
This scheme provides funding assistance to eligible organisations that donate and transport donated fodder for the benefit of livestock affected by a declared disaster.

Farm Household Allowance
The Australian Government provides Farm Household Allowance (FHA) to cash-strapped farming families, regardless of the source of the hardship. Assistance includes up to 4 years of fortnightly income support in every 10-year period. It also provides up to $10,000 for professional advice or training.

More support available for businesses and community groups
Some support for businesses may be available to farmers or primary producers. Find more information on Grants and payments for businesses, NFPs and community groups.
Help with eligibility and applying for support
Receiving some grants or loans can make you ineligible for others. You may also not be eligible if your costs can be covered another way, such as by your insurance. So, it’s important to document your circumstances and get tailored advice about what’s best for your business.
